The holiday season is coming. Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, etc. You know what that means. Lots of amazing food. How do you handle keto through the holidays? I’ll tell you how I do in a quick video.
This video was just about Thanksgiving, but it pertains to all holidays. It was made about Thanksgiving because it is the holiday that is just three days away.
Basically, you have a choice. You can do all of the extra research and work necessary to stay in ketosis through the holidays. For instance, you can host all of the holidays at your house and prepare the entire meal. Really, that’s the only reasonable way to know every ingredient that goes in every item.
Your alternative is to just let it go for a day. And then for Christmas and New Year’s there will be a few days.
For instance in my family, we do the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. I will have one meal where I just cut loose. To lessen the blow, I’m going to fast all day leading up to the meal and completely destroy it.
Then for my family we do the Feast of the Seven Fishes on Christmas Eve. It is a lot of fried and breaded fish. A lot of pasta. We are Italian, so it makes this pretty much impossible to not eat carbs.
Then on Christmas Day my family does lasagna. Like I said, we are Italian. My mom only makes lasagna a time or two a year, so I’m not missing out on this.
Then for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day we have sauerkraut balls, which are breaded and loaded with carbs, among other things. So that’s a total of five cheat days. Possibly it could be reduced to four, depending on what happens on New Year’s Day. Could probably eat ham and green beans and keep it under control.
Sure, that’s a good bit of breaking ketosis. The good news is January is the most popular time of the year to get a diet back on track.
Maybe you are up to the task of not cheating on your diet. If so, that’s great! I commend you. You are very committed and that is awesome! Best of luck.
It’s going to be very difficult to lose weight during the holidays, but if you only cheat on the actual holidays you will be able to do it! You know those five days between Christmas and New Year’s Even? Use those to lose the weight you put on during Christmas and Thanksgiving.
First and foremost, everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving and Merry Christmas along with a Happy New Year! No matter what happens, keto will still be there in 2019 and we’ll lose whatever we gained during the most wonderful time of the year.
